May The Force Be With Us (or Kicking Ass At Wedding Planning)

This month has passed in a whirlwind and I realised I haven’t sewn a thing, or blogged much at all. I have barely been on social media either, except for setting up an account on Vero (come find me!). I promise to not just write about our wedding from now on, but it’s nice for me to keep as a reminder of things.

May The Force Be With You

Andy proposed on 1st February, my birthday, and since then we’ve been very wedding focused. After a couple of days we’d half-seriously decided on a Star Wars theme. Of course, this led me down the rabbit hole that is Pinterest. I remarked to Andy that a lot of sample invitations had May 4th as the date, which was pretty cool. In case you’re not a Star Wars fan, it’s a play on “may the force be with you”. He said that May 4th is a Saturday next year, and that was our minds pretty much made up on the date!

Within 4 days of deciding on the date, we’d paid a deposit on our venue. How’s that for organised?! We knew we wanted a venue close to home to accommodate my Dad and his health issues, so I phoned around a few and we viewed four in total. The last one we saw we both absolutely loved. It’s a beautiful Grade II listed building and has loads of light inside, interesting features and a gorgeous outdoor space too.

Save The Date!

We did the Save the Dates ourselves. That’s my engagement ring!

All Falling Into Place

We don’t want a huge wedding, so we’re keeping things fairly simple. Our daughters are going to be bridesmaids and we’re not having adult bridesmaids, ushers, a best man, or anything else like that. Mostly to keep costs down, but also because we just don’t want any of that stuff. We want something a bit different and not massively traditional.

Usually we’re both terrible procrastinators but already we’ve:

  • designed, printed and posted our Save the Dates;
  • bought my shoes and jewellery;
  • bought Andy’s suit;
  • chosen the flowers and cake that we’d like;
  • planned the centrepieces and other decorations;
  • chosen the bridesmaids dresses I’ll be making;
  • chosen the readings for the ceremony;
  • booked the registrar
Why wear wedding shoes when you can wear these?!

When I say shoes, I actually mean these Po-Zu trainers!

Phew! You can see now why I haven’t been doing any sewing. I’ve also been obsessively reading blogs on sewing wedding dresses because I am definitely going to sew my own! I’m very excited about that, if a little (a lot) terrified! I’ll write a bit more about that in my next blog post.

Feel The Force

The Star Wars theme has been met with amusement in the case of most people and absolute bemusement in the case of others. People keep on nervously asking us if they have to dress up which has made us laugh. We were thinking subtle references, not full-on cosplay. But hey, if you’re invited and the force compels you to be a Stormtrooper, you do you.

Stormtroopers

So far we’ve had a lot of fun planning our wedding and couldn’t be happier with how things are going. The hard bit is going to be working hard to pay for it all!

I promise that this will not turn into a wedding blog, and I won’t be offended if you’d rather skip those posts. FYI, the next one will be about wedding dresses…
