This blog post is coming to you as a newsletter style round up of life in general. I’m not vain enough to think that my decrease in blog posts has even been noticed by anyone, but here’s a round up of what’s going on in my head. Should you be interested.

Nourish

A Newsletter-Style Round Up of Life | Thimble End

First up in the newsletter that isn’t a newsletter, an update on my “word of the year“. We all know that new year’s resolutions are a waste of time, I mean, do you even remember them by June? This year I picked a word to keep me focused and, do you know what? I think it’s working.

I’m definitely taking time to nourish myself. I’ve read more books so far this year than in recent memory and most of them have had a real impact on my daily life. I’ve definitely read more self-improvement books than anything else and the one that has stood out the most for me has been The Miracle Morning. (Spoiler alert: There’s a Miracle Morning movie coming soon…)

As a result of this book I’ve started meditating daily, saying affirmations, visualising achieving my goals and more. It might sound daft, but I really do think I’m in a much more positive frame of mind this year. I’m looking for the good, and finding it, rather than focusing on the bad. Don’t get me wrong, I think repeating affirmations to yourself mindlessly will do diddly squat, but changing your mindset and focusing on your goals is no bad thing.

One thing I haven’t been nourishing so much is my blog. Oops. Must do better.

Sewing

I hardly feel like I can call myself a sewing blogger these days. It seems like the year started off so well and then I decided to make a wedding dress and became terrified of my sewing machine. Progress has finally started though and I have two other projects on the go too. Of course.

Sewing Updates

I’m almost finished with my first Ogden cami, which I think I said I was going to sew back in February? I forget, but every time I move it to the top of my to do list the weather is bad so I don’t bother. Who needs a cami top when it’s cold?!

I’ve also just cut out a Vogue V9253* in a gorgeous ankara* fabric. The plan was to get it sewn up today but I have a poorly big girl at home so that has gone out of the window. Instead I’ll mostly be watching My Little Pony today. No regrets.

I also make to make some shorts for the girls to wear to school using the pattern I used for their Christmas disco shorts. I need to get on with that this week otherwise there’ll be no point, they break up at the end of July!

Wedding

Wedding planning updates

Wedding plans are coming along nicely and, as I said before, we did the bulk of everything within a month or so. I don’t understand people who say wedding planning takes over their lives *shrug*. The biggest thing I’ve done recently is draft out the menu. We’re having afternoon tea and then a buffet which is easy enough, but it’s going to be all vegan. Yes, we have already had people moaning at us. No, we don’t care.

Making an R2-D2 for our wedding

More excitingly, Andy has made a start on some of the decorations. As you know, it’s a Star Wars theme, so he’s currently making a life-size R2-D2 out of foam board and card. It’s pretty impressive.

Blogtacular

I realised over the weekend that it’s been a whole year since Blogtacular. This year’s is next weekend I think, but I’m not going. Partly because of the cost and partly because I’m just not happy about still not receiving any of the recordings from last year’s sessions.

Recordings of all of the sessions were included in the ticket price. I did ask via Twitter a while back when they’d be ready and got a rather curt “when they’re ready” in response. I think a year is long enough, but hey ho.

My Actual Newsletter

Newsletter update

I’ve been thinking of either dropping my email newsletter down to bi-monthly, or just stopping it at all.  As my writing on the blog has been so sporadic lately, it’s becoming harder to generate fresh content for the newsletter too. I appreciate everyone who reads it, but I wonder whether my energy would be better spent writing for the blog instead? I don’t know, but I’ll have it figured out by the time the next one comes out at the end of July!

So there you go, part-newsletter, part-brain dump, that’s what’s been going on with me. There will be more sewing happening soon and not all just wedding-related!

Cannot believe that those recordings aren’t ready yet. I think they should be ashamed of themselves. It’s a service that was offered at a price that was paid and then not delivered.

      I know, I’m very disappointed.
